"Before I started coming to Ft. Wright Crossfit, I had never heard of Crossfit in my life. My mom came home one day saying she wanted to try this class and I figured it was just another workout class she wanted to try out for a little while, like the other classes we had tried (Zumba, Spinning, etc.) She somehow talked me into coming one Saturday and it was literally the hardest thing I had ever done.

I continued to come to Saturday classes only for the longest time and I was sore until at least Wednesday, which was enough for me. I started to get more hooked each time that I came and more and more proud of myself.

I remember telling my mom that I would never be able to participate in class because I cannot do pull-ups, run, ring-dips, or anything like that and now I am conquering something new every time I come. I went from having an attitude that I do not want to go if there is an Indian run, to BRING. IT. ON. The harder Kyle makes the workout, the more I want to try it.

I am very motivated and ready to make everyone and myself proud. No matter what happens that day, I know that I am already a winner because of how far I have come. There is NEVER a dull moment at Crossfit. I am so thankful for everyone I have met and all the help that has been given to me. I am most thankful for my mom for encouraging me to come and not telling me when there would be that Indian run on Saturday mornings. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for me, as I have already used what I have learned at Ft. Wright Crossfit in so many things. Thank you Ft. Wright Crossfit for pushing me to be the best that I can be!"

"CrossFit has honestly changed my life. My wife, Karla and I began attending Ft. Wright CrossFit just over two years ago. Prior to this I thought I was doing well regarding my health but knew that I was missing something. My weight was becoming harder to loose and I was not eating healthy. Karla had asked me to start exercising quite a few months before we started, but I really did not want to start exercising. It was so much easier to sit back and watch television all afternoon. One day I noticed my self image had changed, I just was not as happy with myself as one should feel. I had enough feeling lazy and tired all of the time. During a conversation we decided to go out on a limb and try something new. Luckily Karla’s brother Jeff had been to Ft. Wright CrossFit and said that we should at least give it a try because it was one of the best gyms he had been to. I was scared, I felt like I was going to go to a place where I would be judged on my appearance or lack of physical ability. I can't lift heavy weights like others, I cannot even jump a rope I would tell myself. Nevertheless we began boot camp and quickly began to see what Jeff was talking about. I can say my experience has been nothing but Awesome. We were greeted with open arms. No one was judgmental and everyone was just happy to see us, we quickly began to become part of a community. This community of like minded individuals has since become what I can only describe as Home. Ft. Wright CrossFit has changed me in so many ways. I believe that CrossFit has made my marriage stronger. Karla and I enjoy Ft. Wright CrossFit because of the friends, community, and healthy lifestyle we can introduce our daughter Rilynn to. I now understand that by exercising and working to become healthier I will hopefully get to spend more quality time with my family for many years to come. I am grateful for Ft. Wright CrossFit it has allowed me to become a better man, husband, and father."

Crossfit for me has been wonderful – never in a zillion years did I imagine I would be an early morning girl. I love to sleep – I mean I love to sleep. My college roommate and my husband would vouch for that – snooze button queen, right here!

However I now get up at 4:30AM, usually four days a week to Crossfit.

I checked out Crossfit in September 2012 – after my initial WOD, I knew that my gym membership was done and I was hooked. I love the variety, I love the way that I pushed myself through, I love that the Coach / WOD told me what to do, I love the community feeling.

I have always been active – played volleyball in high school and stayed busy with many different choirs. Staying active helps me physically (obviously) but also mentally – when I don’t take care of myself I find myself very depressed. I recognized years ago that physical activity keeps me happy!

Many can relate – so many roles; wife, mother, friend, employee, daughter, sister, PTA leader, church leader. So much to do, so many different directions - when do you take care of YOU?

My main goals when I started Crossfit were to become stronger, set a good example for my kids and get hooked – find something that sticks. I can confidently say that I am stronger – those mulch bags this summer, were not a problem. My kids see that I have set my health as a priority. I especially love that my 12 year old daughter (Emma) understands that I do this to stay healthy and strong. I don’t work out to lose weight or try to fit a certain image. This is very important to me that she grows up confident and has a strong self-image. I am also hooked - I would never get out of bed to go run or go to the gym and work out on my own.

I am grateful for my health and will keep doing everything to keep it. I am also grateful for the support system at Ft. Wright Crossfit. The coaches and teammates are top notch and I am so proud to be a member.

Crossfit has changed my life in ways I hadn’t even planned.  It has given me the confidence to try things I never thought I could do.  Just 8 months after starting Crossfit, I entered my first competition. A few weeks after that, I ran and finished a Spartan race. In June, I went on a 17-day mission trip overseas. There is no way I could’ve handled the physical demands this trip required of me if it were not for my improved health.  When you feel better, it carries over into many facets of your life beyond just physical health.  I’ve always been an introvert, which was largely due to lack of self-confidence and feeling uncomfortable with my body image.  Crossfit has given me the confidence to be more social and outgoing. Taking Crossfit with my husband has also been a huge blessing to our marriage.  We love talking about the WODs and watching each other set and achieve personal goals in our workouts.  We’ve also gotten our kids involved too.  Unlike most gyms where kids are placed in a childcare room, FWCF offers kids classes that get them moving and having fun exercising.  FWCF provides a family atmosphere that I’ve not seen anywhere else.  Having the ability to share this experience with our kids has been priceless.

My absolute favorite thing about Crossfit is simply that it’s fun!  I have never had so much fun exercising in my life!  Each workout is something new and it never gets old.  There is always a new goal to set, a new skill to master.  I cannot say enough about the wonderful coaches and members at FWCF.  It truly is a community in every sense of the word.  I have learned so much about health, fitness, and nutrition through the top notch coaching there.  My FWCF family continues to provide a huge network of support and encouragement for me each day.

I currently take no medications and focus on diet and exercise alone to stay healthy and out of the doctor’s office.  While I know that another flare of pain and inflammation can happen at any time, I now feel strong enough to deal with it, both physically and mentally.  Crossfit did not just give me back my old life before I became sick; it gave me a much more fulfilling one.   I am happier and healthier than I have ever been and it feels so rewarding to say that!   Crossfit has truly allowed me to become the best version of myself that I believe God intended me to be.
